I can still remember the quote my senior taught me to do a fluoroscopic upper gastrointestinal study with contrast media in my diagnostic radiology rotation, even though I haven't worked in that specialty for 30 years.

ผมยังจำวิธีการสอนของรุ่นพี่ได้ดีจนถึงทุกวันนี้ ตอนให้คนไข้กลืนสารทึบรังสีเพื่อวินิจฉัยรอยโรคในทางเดินอาหารส่วนบนจากเครื่องเอกซเรย์ฟลูออโรสโคป สมัยต้องผ่านไปทำงานในสาขารังสีวินิจฉัย ทั้ง ๆ ที่ไม่ได้ทำงานด้านนั้นมาตั้ง ๓๐ ปีแล้ว

The sandy beach at this shark island is very very soft, I've never seen this before. At first, I think it is only at the spot where the waves come up that our feet will sink into it.

หาดทรายบนเกาะฉลามนี้นุ่มมากกกก ไม่เคยเห็นทรายที่นุ่มเนียนแบบนี้มาก่อน ตอนแรกผมคิดว่าจะเป็นเฉพาะตรงที่คลื่นซัดสาดถึง พอน้ำมา เท้าเราก็จะยุบลงไปในผืนทราย

The south end of the beach has many rocks. The splashing wave at this spot does not touch just the soft sand leaving a smooth surface like most other parts of the beach. It is swirling in turbulence, turbid with sand grains.


ชายหาดด้านทิศใต้มีโขดหินจำนวนมาก คลื่นที่สาดซัดเข้ามาจุดนี้ จึงไม่ได้สัมผัสผืนทรายนุ่มๆ ปรับแต่งจนเรียบสนิทเหมือนแนวหาดส่วนใหญ่ แต่แปรปรวน หมุนวน เกิดเป็นตะกอนทรายขุ่น

Finally, it's time to say goodbye heading for our next destination in proximity. Just around the southern tip of Bo Ywe Island, there it is ...Nga Mann or Shark Island.

ในที่สุดก็ได้เวลาร่ำลา เพื่อเดินทางสู่จุดหมายถัดไปซึ่งอยู่ไม่ไกล แค่อ้อมปลายแหลมทางใต้สุดของเกาะโบ-ยแวก็เห็นแล้ว ...เกาะงะมาง์ หรือ เกาะฉลาม

"No, no shark. But it's looked like a shark"  The crew tells us.

What we head to is clearly seen from afar, the white sandy beach near its northern end that looked like a shark fin. 

"ไม่ใช่ ไม่มีฉลาม เกาะมันเหมือนฉลาม" ลูกเรือบอกเรา 

และจุดหมายของเราก็คือ หาดทรายสีขาวซึ่งมองเห็นได้แต่ไกล ตรงเกือบปลายเกาะด้านทิศเหนือซึ่งมีลักษณะเหมือนกระโดงปลาฉลาม

Later before noon, our boat leaves the island heading south. I look back at it and realize obviously why it's called ...shark. 

ตอนหลัง เมื่อเรือของเราออกจากเกาะฉลามมาช่วงใกล้เที่ยงแล้วมุ่งลงใต้ ถ้าหันกลับไปมอง จะเห็นได้ชัดว่า มันชื่อนี้ได้อย่างไร
