After the bonfire party on the beach, I go to bed quite early, no chat with others like the nights before. But in my mind, I seem to go back and talk with everyone, the tourists and the crew, also with myself. 

หลังงานเลี้ยงบนหาด ผมก็เข้านอนเร็ว ไม่ได้คุยกับใครอีกแบบคืนก่อนๆ แต่ในความคิด เหมือนค่อยๆ กลับไปนั่งคุยกับคนที่เพิ่งรู้จัก ทั้งนักท่องเที่ยวและลูกเรือทีละคน รวมทั้งกับตนเอง

When our boat is anchored near the southwest tip of Thay Yae Island, I realize that tonight will be different.

เมื่อเรือของเราจอดทอดสมอใกล้ปลายสุดด้านตะวันตกเฉียงใต้ของเกาะเตเย ผมก็รู้ว่า คืนนี้จะแตกต่างไป

The crew and the captain unload all the equipment into the lifeboat, then all of them head to the shore leaving us on the boat alone ...ah!

.. ..  ..


For more than an hour till the twilight fades into darkness, then the lifeboat comes back to pick us up as well.

ลูกเรือและกัปตันขนอุปกรณ์ทุกอย่างลงเรือเล็ก แล้วทั้งหมดก็มุ่งหน้าเข้าฝั่ง ทิ้งให้เราอยู่บนเรือกันตามลำพัง ...อ้าว

เวลาผ่านไปกว่าชั่วโมง แสงทองที่ขอบฟ้าหรี่ลิบเข้าสู่ความมืด เรือเล็กจึงกลับมารับเราขึ้นฝั่งเช่นกัน

The barbecue dinner is almost ready to serve, then the large and small bonfires are lit to welcome us to the 'Bonfire on the Beach' party.

อาหารเย็นแบบบาร์บีคิวกำลังจะเสร็จพอดี แล้วกองไฟทั้งใหญ่น้อยก็ถูกจุดขึ้น ต้อนรับเราสู่ ..งานเลี้ยง 'กองไฟบนชายหาด'

It's really a special night and a special seafood dinner, the only one meal we don't have on board. Thanks to all the crew specially preparing all of this for us,

including to face the flocks of sandfires on the island before us.

There is only one big bonfire after dinner. The sky is dark without the moon, but many twinkle little stars. It's a time for star watching.

เป็นคำ่คืนพิเศษจริงๆ กับอาหารทะเลสดๆ และเป็นอาหารเพียงมื้อเดียวที่ไม่ได้รับประทานกันบนเรือ ต้องขอบคุณลูกเรือทุกคนที่จัดเตรียมให้เราอย่างตั้งใจ 

รวมถึงการเป็นด่านหน้าลงไปเผชิญกับฝูงริ้นทรายเจ้าถิ่นบนเกาะให้เราก่อนด้วย

หลังอาหารเย็น เหลือเพียงกองไฟใหญ่กองเดียว พระจันทร์ก็ยังไม่ขึ้น ท้องฟ้ามืดมิดเต็มไปด้วยดาวน้อยระยิบระยับไปหมด เวลาสำหรับการดูดาว

Zar Det Nge or Small Zar Det has 3 main islands. The southwest largest one is Myinn Khwar (မြင်းခွာ) or 'horseshoe', its English name is Hastings. It is not the famous horseshoe island near Thai border. The other two smaller islands are in the northeast; Myauk Phyu (မြောက်ဖြူ) or 'White North', but its English name is South Phipps and Thay Yae (သေရည်) or Barwell Island. There is a deep channel between both islands, here is an important navigation route and also a good shelter during the stormy season.

หมู่เกาะซาแดะอ์แงหรือซาแดะอ์น้อย มีเกาะหลัก ๓ เกาะ เกาะใหญ่ที่สุดอยู่ทางตะวันตกเฉียงใต้ ชื่อว่า เกาะมยีง์ควา (မြင်းခွာ) แปลว่า เกือกม้า มีชื่ออังกฤษว่า ฮาสติงส์ เป็นคนละแห่งกับเกาะเกือกม้าที่กำลังดังอยู่ทางใต้ใกล้เขตประเทศไทย ส่วนอีกสองเกาะขนาดย่อมอยู่ทางตะวันออกเฉียงเหนือ คือ เกาะมเยาะอ์พยู (မြောက်ဖြူ) แปลว่า ขาวเหนือ มีชื่ออังกฤษว่า ฟิปส์ใต้ คู่กับ เกาะเตเย (သေရည်) หรือบาร์เวล ระหว่างเกาะทั้งสองมีร่องน้ำลึก เป็นเส้นทางเดินเรือและมุมหลบลมพายุที่สำคัญ

Thay Yae Island in the middle of the picture above, its name literally means 'water of death', but the locals call it 'Ghost Island'.

เกาะเตเย ตรงกลางในภาพข้างบน ชื่อตามตัวอักษรแปลว่า 'น้ำแห่งความตาย' แต่ชาวเรือเรียกเกาะนี้ว่า 'เกาะผี'

We sail further southward then pass the eastern side of a small isolated island called Myauk Nee.

Firstly I think its Myauk means 'north' in Myanmar because its English name is North Phipps Island. But the crew tells me that it is another different word with similar pronunciation which means 'monkey'. So this is the Red Monkey Island.

ล่องใต้ต่อมาได้พักหนึ่ง เรือของเราก็ผ่านทางด้านตะวันออกของเกาะโดดเล็กๆ เกาะหนึ่ง ..เกาะมเยาะอ์นี

ตอนแรกผมคิดว่า มเยาะอ์ น่าจะหมายถึง 'ทิศเหนือ'ในภาษาเมียนมา เพราะชื่อภาษาอังกฤษของเกาะนี้ คือ เกาะฟิปส์เหนือ แต่ถามไปถามมา คำนี้เขียนต่างกัน แต่ออกเสียงพ้องกัน แปลว่า 'ลิง' เกาะนี้จึงแปลชื่อได้ว่า ลิงแดง

This island is not far from Kaw Thaung mainland and can be visited by a day trip to enjoy swimming and snorkeling. 

We do not visit this island, so I cannot find out that there are real red monkeys, or just white-skin tourists become red with sunburn.

เกาะนี้อยู่ห่างจากฝั่งเกาะสองไม่ไกล สามารถมาเที่ยวแบบไปกลับวันเดียวได้ จึงเป็นจุดเล่นน้ำ ดำน้ำตื้นยอดนิยมเกาะหนึ่ง

เราไม่ได้แวะเกาะนี้ เลยไม่ได้พิสูจน์ว่า ชื่อลิงแดงที่ว่านี้ คือ ลิงแดงจริงๆ หรือหมายถึง นักท่องเที่ยวผิวขาวที่ถูกแดดเผาจนแดง

The north tip of Myauk Nee Island is on the left in the picture above, the next is Par Law Kar Kyan (ပလော်ကာကျန်) or St. Lukes Island in the background. Both Shwe Khunn Islands are in the middle.
