Two young crew, Aw Sa Kar and Yan Naing Aung, are both we can rely on. They know which direction the current flows, take us in the lifeboat to the proper spot then drop us down there. After that we'll let the water current does its job, blows us away, snorkeling into the beauty without much effort. And if anyone is exhausted, they will come with towing service.

I'd like to call this small island surrounded on the north and east by Lampi or Long Islands ..the Star Island.

With its twinkle, a little star can compete with the moon.

This small island is a tourist attraction because of its snorkeling spot, perfect water level, current and a variety of underwater life. Many colorful fishes here make this island twinkling.

After snorkeling, enjoy watching the fishes and hard corals, I walk up the only one beach on the island. This east beach forms a short sandy cape with a one-point-of-the-star shape.

If looking northward from the beach, I see the southern tip of Ko Phawt (ကိုဖေါ.) or 204 Islands, 60 Island as a single small one in front, all with Lampi Island in the background.

หลังจากดำน้ำตื้นชมฝูงปลากับปะการังแข็งจนหนำใจ ผมเดินขึ้นฝั่ง หาดทรายเพียงแห่งเดียวบนเกาะซึ่งอยู่ทางทิศตะวันออก ชายหาดที่มีลักษณะเป็นแหลมยื่นออกมาเหมือนกับเสี้ยวหนึ่งของดวงดาว

Our boat departed from Lampi Island bay we stayed last night, sailing up north to this Tar Yar Island. We spend more than one hour in the morning here, then head back to the south. So this island is the northernmost latitude of this cruise.

High enough for me to reach for this twinkle little star.

A Thai word 'khon' has two meanings; as a noun, it means human beings, as a verb, it means to stir or mix something together. So..as human, we usually stir or mix something up. Our world may interfere others, our activities may cause some problem to other species and nature. To stir is a verb that also implies to cause a problem. 

'คน' มีสองความหมาย ถ้าเป็นคำนาม หมายถึง พวกเราที่ไม่ใช่สัตว์ ถ้าเป็นคำกริยา หมายถึง กวนให้ผสมกัน จึงเป็นที่มาของประโยคที่ว่า เป็นคนจึงชอบคน โลกของคนอาจไปกวนโลกของสิ่งมีชีวิตอื่น พฤติกรรมหลายๆ อย่างของเราก็สร้างปัญหาให้กับสิ่งมีชีวิตอื่นและธรรมชาติ คำว่า คน ในภาษาอังกฤษ ก็มีความหมายถึง การสร้างปัญหา

Looking at Lampi Island from our boat in the bay, an early morning sunlight is not too bright, I still can see some fog just above the ground. The surrounding is quite peaceful and tranquil. The sight which is totally different from what I heard from Ko Paing last night; piracy, illegal trade, and military repression.

Looking northward, I see a high peak in the background. It should be the 'East Peak' that Ko Paing mentioned. To conquest this island's highest peak, to overcome the survey obstacles is probably a part of the key success of the survey team. Later the tourists may have a chance to follow their footsteps, which I hope it'll be a path to heaven.

มองค่อนไปทางทิศเหนือ ผมเห็นยอดเขาสูงลูกหนึ่งเป็นฉากหลัง น่าจะเป็น 'ยอดบูรพา' ตามที่โกปายง์พูดถึง การพิชิตยอดสูงสุดบนเกาะแห่งนี้ได้ น่าจะเป็นส่วนหนึ่งในความสำเร็จของการสำรวจ การเอาชนะอุปสรรคของทีมสำรวจ และอีกไม่นานนักท่องเที่ยวทั่วไปก็คงมีโอกาสเดินตามรอยเท้าของพวกเขาเหล่านั้น  ซึ่งผมหวังว่า มันจะเป็นเส้นทางไปสู่สรวงสวรรค์

There are large ropes, chains and an anchor neatly placed on the boat bow. They make me think of the word 'bonding' in Thai, which has a deeper meaning than just the two words, to tie and to twist around.

Tonight, although our boat shelters in a semi-circular shaped bay, the other side is wide open to the sea. ..the Indian Ocean, no island range to fender the wind. Even in the calm season like this, our boat continuously drifts, moving back and forth all the time, unlike last night.

Name ..word by which a person or place is known or spoken to, this word itself is pronounced similarly in many languages included Thai, English, Myanmar and Malay. But we name the same thing or place differently.

 
Lampi, the name of the island, or Lanbi (လန်ပိ) comes from Moken word 'Lebi' which is the name of one Moken subgroup who live here. It's called Kyunn Tann Shey in Myanmar and Sullivan's Island in English.

While traveling, I really enjoy asking the place name which is the easiest way to learn about its background briefly. But for this cruise, there are more than a hundred islands' names, such a hard work. I can't remember them all, so I have to write down. How to make it less confusing, I have to take the pictures. But it isn't easy at all when taking small photos in my smartphone to ask the crew.

Lampi Island or Kyunn Tann Shey is long and has a form of inverted L-shape, it is the biggest island and the core of the marine national park. I'd like to translate it as Long Island. Its website's headline describes...

Lampi Marine National Park was declared ASEAN Heritage Park in 2003. It protects evergreen and mangrove forests, beaches and dunes, coral reefs, sea grass and a rich biodiversity, with over 1,000 recorded species.

From Long Beach, our boat sails along the southwest coast of Lampi Island, passing Kulat Island (ကူလက်ကျွန်း), the foreground largest one in the picture above. If we look a little bit further north to the left, there is an isolated small island called 60 Island (၆၀ ကျွန်း), then Tar Yar Island (တာယာကျွန်း) which will be in our tomorrow schedule.

But for today, Captain Moe need to find a proper place for anchoring to shelter overnight at one bay. Finally, we have it when the sun sinks down the horizon.

I sit listening to many exciting stories of this island at my routine place, the roof-top deck above captain's cabin: Pirates of the Andaman; the transit point of illegal trade from Mandalay, Yangon, Thailand and Malaysia; the military government repression and the naval base settlement; The blind elephant that attacked the villagers then had been killed.

Not only the amazing puddles, this beach also has many puzzling trails in a wavy pattern that look like fish or ..snake scales, not being washed smoothly by waves at low tide like others.

นอกจากแอ่งน้ำมหัศจรรย์เล็กๆ แล้ว หาดทรายนี้ยังมีร่องรอยแปลกตา ลักษณะเป็นลอนริ้วคล้ายเกล็ดปลาหรือ..เกล็ดงู อยู่เต็มไปหมด ไม่ถูกคลื่นซัดแต่งจนเรียบสนิทยามน้ำลงเหมือนหาดอื่นๆ

At the mouth of the stream that flows into the sea, these traces are clearly visible being beautifully sculpted by the flowing water.

But, how about the rest of them which are not at all near the stream, I still can't explain how they have been done?

My imagination may be the same fantasy of ancient people, they would explain these traces as the serpent's trails, trails of Naga or big snake, the mythical creature that personifies a big river.
